About the Scheme

What are the aims of the HKLSS Mentorship Scheme?

HKLSS Mentorship Scheme is designed to cultivate students in the life sciences, biomedical sciences and biotechnology disciplines, equipping them with workplace knowledge, soft skills, and the ability to network and build meaningful connections. Guided by industry experts, entrepreneurs, and senior executives from a wide range of professions, mentees will be able to learn, grow, and identify their directions.

What is the Young Mentors Scheme?

Our Young Mentors Scheme is specifically open to undergraduate freshmen and college students. Our young mentors are HKLSS alumni aged 35 and below, who are passionate about sharing their challenges and experiences from a peer-like perspective.

What are the benefits of becoming a mentee?

Mentees will be able to identify academic and career opportunities. They will gain insights into the biotech developments in Hong Kong and the Chinese Mainland. Through structured and regular mentor-mentee interactions, and exclusive activities, mentees will be able to meet mentors and fellow mentees to expand their personal and professional networks.

Who can apply for the Mentorship Scheme?

Students in engineering, healthcare, medicine, sciences, and technology.

What is the duration of the Mentorship Scheme?

The Scheme is designed to last for 12 months. The 2027/28 cohort will commence in March 2027.

How can I become a mentee?

You can apply for the Scheme by filling in the application form and indicating your preferred program(s) by ticking the box(es). You can submit the application for the Mentorship Scheme 2027/28 and Summer Internship Program 2027 together. For more details, please refer to the Mentorship Scheme website.

How often do mentors and mentees communicate?

Mentees and mentors are advised to meet up face-to-face or online, three to four times over the course of the 12-month Scheme. They may begin their journey following our official Kick-off Ceremony, with several follow-up meetings scheduled spaced evenly and reasonably throughout the year to support professional exchange and growth.

What activities are included in the Scheme?

Mentees will be engaged in interactive workshops, talks and networking activities.

When will I get a response after submitting my application?

An application receipt will be sent to you upon successful submission of your application. Matching results will be announced through email within Q1 2027.

Who are the mentors?

Mentors are industry experts, entrepreneurs and senior executives from a wide range of professions in the life sciences industry, specializing in AI and digital innovation, business development, entrepreneurship, governance and compliance, healthcare, investment, non-profits, R&D, etc.  

Over 80 mentors joined the 2027/28 cohort, including Mr Vincent Cheung (Nan Fung Group/HKLSS), Prof Tom Cheung (The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), Mr Emmanuel Hui (Tiger Jade Pebble Accelerator), Ms Cintia Nunes (The Mills Fabrica), Prof Anderson Shum (The University of Hong Kong), and more.

About the Matching Process

How are mentors and mentees matched?

We will pair mentors and mentees based on their aligned goals and interests, and the mentee's desired areas of growth, alongside the mentor's expertise and experience.

Can I choose my mentor?

We will take mentees’ preferences into consideration. However, mentor-mentee pairing is primarily based on compatibility, goals, and areas of expertise to ensure the best possible mentoring experience.

Tips for Mentees

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Set clear goals – Define what you want to achieve through the Scheme and communicate your goals to your mentor.

Be prepared – Understand your mentor's time constraints and ensure you arrive at meetings well-prepared and organized. Prepare topics to discuss with your mentor in advance of the meeting. 

Be open-minded – Be willing to receive feedback, criticism, new perspectives and suggestions from your mentor.

Be proactive – Maintain regular and proactive communication with your mentor and take lead to initiate most of the interactions. Don't hesitate to reach out and let your mentor know when you need help or guidance.
