The Scheme aims to provide our mentees with a platform that enables them to meet with industry experts, entrepreneurs and senior executives from a wide range of professions in the life science industry. The Scheme is designed to cultivate young students in the life sciences and biotechnology sectors, equipping them with workplace knowledge, soft skills, and the ability to network and build relevant connections. 

Mentees will be able to identify academic and career opportunities. They will gain insights into the biotech developments in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Through various activities, mentees will better understand the latest I&T trends and expand their personal and professional networks.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students in sciences, engineering and medicine. 

The Scheme is designed to last for 12 months. The 2025/26 cohort will be commencing in March 2025.

Mentees should meet up with the mentors face-to-face and/or online (e.g. Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, etc.) with each other at reasonable intervals during the mentorship period (preferably 3 to 4 meetings).

Mentees will be engaged in immersive programs including interactive workshops, talks and networking activities.

Results will be announced through email within Q1 2025.

The mentors are industry experts, entrepreneurs and senior executives from a wide range of professions in the life sciences industry and biotechnology organizations, specializing in business development, data analytics, entrepreneurship, healthcare investment, regulation and compliance, science communication, research and development, etc.  

Over 80 mentors joined the 2024 cohort, including Mr Vincent Cheung (Nan Fung Group/HKLSS), Mr Antony Leung (Nan Fung Group), Dr Celine Chan (Centre for Novostics), Prof Tom Cheung (The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology), Mr Emmanuel Hui (Tiger Jade Pebble Accelerator), Prof Daniel Lee (The Chinese University of Hong Kong), Dr Benjamin Li (Lee's Pharmaceutical), Mr Donald Lung (Antengene), Ms Cintia Nunes (The Mills Fabrica) and more.

The scheme pairs mentees in their first year of undergraduate study with HKLSS alumni aged 35 and below. We ensure that our young mentors are good enough to share their challenges and experience as young people, offering their mentees a “peer” lens to view their concerns, possible solutions, and career options.

We will pair mentors and mentees based on their aligned goals and interests. We will also consider various factors, including the mentee's desired areas of growth and the mentor's expertise and experience in those specific areas.

While we take mentee preferences into consideration, mentor-mentee pairing is primarily based on compatibility, goals, and areas of expertise to ensure the best possible mentoring experience.

Is it your first time being a mentee and you don’t know where to start? Here are some tips to help you get started.

Set clear goals – Define what you want to achieve through the scheme and communicate your goals to your mentor.

Be prepared – Value your mentor's time constraints and ensure you arrive at meetings well-prepared and organized. Prepare topics to discuss with your mentor in advance of the meeting. 

Be open-minded – Be willing to receive feedback, criticism, new perspectives and suggestions from your mentor.

Be proactive – Maintain regular and proactive communication with your mentor and take lead to initiate most of the interactions. Don't hesitate to reach out and let your mentor know when you need help or guidance.
